Firstly,
are designers also part of tech guys?
Well...yes of course!
although they don't do most of the technical works (like programming),
but they still play a very vital role in the tech industry,
these roles look so similar that they easily get misunderstood.
So in the course of this series,
I would be making clearer some often misunderstood roles in the design industry.
UI/UX DESIGNER VS PRODUCT DESIGNER
GRAPHIC DESIGNER VS VISUAL DESIGNER
WEB DESIGNER VS WEB DEVELOPER
So I will be explaining these often misunderstood roles in 3 subtopics:
Who they are
What they do
What they earn
UI/UX DESIGNER VS PRODUCT DESIGNER
UI/UX DESIGNER
UI (User interface) designers are concerned with how a user navigates through an interface(App, websites, game interface etc).
While UX (User Experience) designers are interested in how the users feel while navigating through the interface.
So one who is interested in both is called a UI/UX designer.
UI/UX designer ------ User
Product designer ---- User and company
So the key difference is that a UI/UX designer is concerned primarily with the user's journey,
while the product designer is concerned with the user's journey as well as the goals of the business itself - Leigh Kunis
WHAT DO THEY DO?
UI DESIGNERS:
They design all the screens through which a user will move, then create the visual elements and their interactive properties that facilitate this movement.
They are responsible for the look and feel of websites, web apps and other digital products
They work exclusively on digital projects, and for this reason, a deep understanding of user experience and web design skills is needed
It's important to include strong wireframing skills in a UI design toolkit, and also they should be good in HTML and CSS to enable them to understand how their designs will work on websites and apps.
They should also have a strong grasp of general design fundamentals like colour theory and typography.
HOW MUCH DO UI DESIGNERS EARN?
Well, according to skillcrush..com/blog an average UI designer earns $86,833 per year,
note that is relatively based on location
5 Things UX DESIGNERS DO?
Well...it varies from companies to companies,
depending on what project is being carried out
User Research: This is the beginning of the UX designer’s process, they will have to find out who their competitors are, after identifying that, they look out for technical barriers, standards and opportunities
Design: This is usually misunderstood as being about “making things look pretty”, whereas it’s about problem-solving and connecting with the user to improve usability accessibility and user delight
UX copywriting: It’s mainly about writing the content on the user interface, to reflect the voice of the product/organization and also to help the user to navigate easily
Validate/Test with users: This is mainly identifying the problems faced by users during the interactions in the design prototype. This is often better when done in person to observe user behaviour.
Presenting the design solution to the business: This is the main part of every designer’s job. The UX designer should be able to present and interact with people to empathize on a potential problem
HOW MUCH DO UX DESIGNERS EARN?
Well...according to uxdesignersalaries.com, UX designers make an average of $52,583/year, while they make an average of $12,251/year in Nigeria.
Note: An Average oh...lol
PRODUCT DESIGNERS
Well...for me there is a thin line between a UI/UX designer and a product designer,
this difference is that a product designer is a little bit more zoomed out, that is to say,
they have a wider perspective of design,
they are not just concerned about the design only,
but they are also focused on the commercial and business effects the design would have.
They are also focused on the revenue and ROI of the business or company,
they also analyzed data and markets and finally foresee the management of the product from beginning to end.
WHAT DO THEY DO?
Create design concepts, sketches, drawings and illustrations and determine the best presentation strategies
Research and remain up -to -date on market trends
Coordinate artists or layout designers to ensure accurate design communication and efficiency
Modify or revive designs to meet customers needs or production limitations
WHAT DO THEY EARN?
Well...according to payscale.com an average product designer earns $83,000/year
Although their pay varies with the location too.
